Paper Review Process

EMBC accepts the following types of manuscripts for the conference:

  • Contributed Papers (4 pages, published)
  • Minisymposia (1 page abstract by invitation only thru a proposal process, not published)
  • Special & Invited Session Papers (4 pages by invitation only thru a proposal process, published)
  • Late Breaking Research Abstracts (1 Page, Poster, not published)

The IEEE EMBS supports and executes a stringent paper review process. Each manuscript receives a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 reviews. The EMBS Conference Editorial Board (CEB) oversees the Review Process with the assistance of the EMBS Technical Committees and over 5000 reviewers. The CEB is tasked with executing the Paper Review Process in a timely fashion and delivering a preliminary Program to the Program Committee. The Program Committee finalizes the Program and notifies Authors the results of the Review.

The targeted rejection rate for manuscripts at EMBC is 30%. EMBC is our general conference. This means we have varying levels of expertise of attendees from students (high school to graduate), participants from Developing Countries, non-members not familiar with EMBC and IEEE Fellows. A major goal of the event is to ensure there is an opportunity for all to learn how to present their research in a challenging, but supportive and encouraging environment.

The Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society are published in IEEE Xplore, a digital library of the IEEE. Additionally, the Proceedings of this Conference are indexed in Medline/PUBmed, Elsevier (Compendex, ScienceDirect and Scopus), Google Scholar, INSPEC, CiteSeerX and Web of Science.
